About us

The Broadway Band, a student-run performance group and official club at Berklee College of Music, is dedicated to bringing themed musical theater concerts to life. Our focus is on providing a space where instrumentalists, music directors, orchestrators, and copyists can collaborate, learn, and thrive in a professional environment. We prioritize the quality and musical nuances that make each performance unique, ensuring that our musicians have the time and resources to fully prepare and showcase their skills.

Founded in 2019 by student Jeremy Tolsky, The Broadway Band produces three shows a year, including two large orchestral shows with a full band and a yearly unplugged acoustic show with reduced instrumentation. Over the years, our orchestral band has grown to 16 musicians, allowing for even more dynamic performances. More than 70 people are involved in the semester’s activities, with members from both Berklee College of Music and The Boston Conservatory. Many of our alumni have gone on to successful careers in the professional musical theater world.

Our most recent shows include Shows About Shows, Unplugged: Off-Broadway, Heroes vs. Villains, and Stevening: An Evening with Steve. We’ve performed in venues such as The Berklee Performance Center, The Loft, Oliver Colvin Recital Hall, The Caf, and St. Cecilia’s Church off-campus. In addition to our concerts, we also do recording sessions and host community events like trivia and movie/bootleg nights.

While we provide opportunities for actors and vocalists, our primary mission is to elevate theater musicians, offering them real-world experience and a supportive community. As we continue to grow, The Broadway Band aims to host more concerts and events that inspire students to pursue their passion for theater music throughout their time at Berklee and beyond.
